BTW… I was recently in my local Guitar Center to get a Mic Boom/Stand, Pop Filter, cables, etc… and they do this cheesy little demo… where they hold a lighter behind a nylon mesh pop filter and tell you to blow it out… which you do immediately on the first breath… then they put it behind a metal screen pop filter and tell you to do the same… and you can’t… sold!! — of course the metal pop screen is like 3 times the cost of the nylon one… but, it’s hard to argue with the result of their little demo…

Black Dub

I realize it’s a matter of personal taste… but, I had the best time at last night’s Black Dub concert at Diesel in Pittsburgh. Daniel Lanois is a rock n roll legend… Brian Blade was fantastic on drums and Daryl Johnson equally so on bass. However… it’s Trixie Whitley that really steals the show. Trixie is this tiny little thing… who sings as though she were possessed by higher powers… and she is truly something to see!

However I doubt that anyone made any money last night… as there couldn’t have been more than 100 people there… it was the most intimate concert I’ve ever attended… the audience was right when they called them back for an encore!

(correction — I’m not sure who the bass player was on Friday night… in retrospect it did not appear to be Daryl Johnson… who I think is a lot older than the guy who played on Friday night… also, there’s some great background on Daniel in this post on the Post-Gazzete website… http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11167/1153902-388.stm by Scott Mervis)
